P.R.I.D.E – Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Determination, Enthusiasm
Despite winning the tip and running their transition well, it took Storm several minutes to score their first points of the game, but they did so through a nice jump shot from Fox after some good work by Ravn beneath the basket. Five points in quick succession gave the visitors their first lead of the game and they soon found their feet as Ravn continued to dominate the offensive boards. Despite some sloppy defence, which allowed the Flyers to threaten in transition, Colbron scored twice from three point territory to ensure Storm were up 17-27 at the end of the first. Flyers looked determined to eat away at the deficit as the second got underway, but they were denied early points thanks to a powerful block by Gowing. At the other end Storm maintained control as Fox added two more, after rebounding a missed free-throw, and sunk a perfect three from a central position. Good post play from Henderson drew a foul from which she converted both free-throws and Dennis added two more just before the buzzer to give Storm a 23-39 lead at the half. Flyers made a positive start to the third, picking up a couple of baskets before Colbron was fouled and sent to the line. She scored one of two, but almost immediately afterwards knocked down an impressive three to give the visitors a 27-43 lead. Strong D from Storm lead to a Flyers shot clock violation, before Ravn drove to the basket for two more and Colbron scored another three after a well executed play. Storm continued to dictate as Fox split the Flyers D to layup in transition and Dennis scored twice from the line to give them a 35-53 lead at the end of the third quarter. Storm scored the opening points of the fourth after a great move by Ravn lead to an easy look for two. Flyers were denied early points by the outstretched arm of Loutonen, although they soon after scored in transition, something which did not sit well with Storm Coach Brocklehurst who made his opinions felt in the time out. The visitors restarted at a frantic pace and through great team defence shut Flyers out for the next seven minutes winning the last quarter 27 – 3, something that had the Storm following fans from the local Rainbow group cheering wildly. Storm closed out the game to win 38-74. Sean Guest Bristol Storm Press Officer
