Bristol Storm Under 18s Euro Youth Cup Champions!

Bristol Storm Under 18s took part in the Euro Youth Cup in Blanes Spain over the weekend of June 17th-20th.  The first game was a tough fought victory versus Vilnius Basketball, a very large and successful Lithuanian club, overcoming a 9 point 4th quarter deficit to win by 3.  Games 2 and 3 were against local Spanish Clubs.  Unfortunately one team couldn’t make it so that was a walk over victory, and game 3 saw Storm dominate from start to finish ensuring all players got quality court time.  This set up a quarter final versus UK Prem side Surrey Rams.  Surrey was a very tough and skilled team, however Storm prevailed putting them in the finals versus a USA Select team called PHD Hoops.  Both PHD Hoops and Storm went into the finals unbeaten.  PHD Hoops, led by a 2 time Junior College National Champion Coach, was an extremely athletic and talented team.  Neither team could really take control of the game, and the score would remain close throughout the entire game with Bristol Storm ultimately taking the Championship game 68-62 securing their first ever European Championship Trophy!

Armitage Scoops WEBBA MVP

FireStorm had completed the WEBBA double winning the League and the Women’s Invitational Cup, and it was great for everyone involved, to make it a unique triple Pip Armitage pick up the MVP for the season.

With FireStorm doing so well obviously numerous players featured in the top of the stats tables but Pip led the pack finishing as the leagues top scorer, top three point shooter and in the top ten for Free Throw %.  Coupled with consistent dominant rebounding you begin to see the whole picture, of a player who had a strong resurgent season.

Storm Bristol Basketball Founder Nominated to Hall of Fame

Bristol Storm founder Steve Brocklehurst has been nominated into the Bristol City Hall of Fame for Exceptional Contribution.

It has been fifteen years since the club started on the Netham field with a portable basket, the growth and achievements have been extraordinary for the Storm club, regular reaching much further than you would expect but the desire and drive of everyone involved in the club saw it, it’s teams and the individuals achieve some amazing things.

WEBBA Women’s Invitational Cup

It was the first WEBBA Women’s Invitational Final, but it was the fourth time that Braves and FireStorm would be facing off against each other.

The game started slowly for both teams, I guess big match nerves, and half-time could not have come soon enough.  The second half though was a different game and the energy that FireStorm hit the floor with was a game changer, and FireStorm never really looked like losing the game or momentum whatever Braves tried to throw at them.
